The global music industry is undergoing a dual transformation. Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how music is discovered and created, while core business sectors—rights management, publishing, radio, and live events—are reinforcing their operations through strategic leadership realignment.
At Entertainlens, we view these developments as part of a broader industry pivot toward a more integrated and technologically mature music ecosystem.
UMG and NVIDIA Push Responsible AI Forward
One of the most significant moves comes from Universal Music Group’s partnership with NVIDIA, positioning responsible AI at the center of music discovery and creation. The collaboration combines NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure with UMG’s vast catalog to support new forms of engagement while prioritizing copyright protection and rightsholder compensation.
The initiative extends NVIDIA’s Music Flamingo model, which analyzes full-length tracks across harmony, structure, timbre, lyrics, and cultural context. The goal is to transform music catalogs into interactive, conversational environments rather than static databases.
UMG Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge emphasized that the partnership is designed to advance human creativity while respecting copyright safeguards, highlighting NVIDIA’s commitment to responsible AI as a key factor in the collaboration.
Creation Tools Consolidate: Landr Acquires Reason Studios
On the production side, AI-powered music platform Landr has acquired Reason Studios, the developer behind the long-standing Reason DAW and Reason Rack. Reason will continue to operate as an independent brand.
Landr CEO Pascal Pilon described the acquisition as a way to expand access to Reason’s instruments and effects across multiple workflows, supported by Landr’s broader creator ecosystem. An Artist Council of longtime Reason users will help guide the transition.
Strengthening the Industry’s Business Core
Beyond technology, major rights organizations are reinforcing operational leadership.
Peermusic has promoted Paul Smelt to Chief Operating Officer, expanding his oversight across publishing and neighboring rights. CEO Mary Megan Peer cited Smelt’s role in integrating acquired companies as central to the decision.
ASCAP also strengthened its licensing division by promoting Hayley Dukes to Senior Vice President of Licensing. Dukes brings experience from AMC Networks and HBO, with a focus on adapting licensing strategies to a changing media landscape.
Radio and Live Events See Leadership Updates
Big Machine Label Group elevated Jay Cruze to National Director of Radio Strategy, leveraging his background in national programming and radio relations.
In live entertainment, True Tickets promoted Ken Lesnik to Chief Commercial Officer and Kirk Mortensen to Chief Product Officer, reinforcing its commercial and product leadership as digital ticketing continues to evolve.
Entertainlens Outlook
As the music industry moves into 2026, the focus is clear: balance responsible AI adoption with experienced human leadership. From UMG’s AI partnerships to structural moves in publishing and live events, the industry is consolidating its foundations while preparing for long-term technological change.
