How We Got Here
My Life with the Walter Boys premiered on Netflix on December 7, 2023, adapted from Ali Novak’s 2014 novel which was originally published on Wattpad. The premise is both simple and quietly devastating: Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), a freshman from New York City, loses her parents and older sister in a car accident and moves to Colorado to live with her mother’s close friend Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty), her husband George (Marc Blucas), and their enormous family.
Season 1 spent its time doing what good YA drama does best — slowly, agonizingly building the romantic tension. Cole Walter (Noah LaLonde) was the school’s former star quarterback whose career was derailed by a leg injury, and his complicated pull toward Jackie ran underneath almost every scene they shared. Meanwhile, Alex (Ashby Gentry) openly confessed his love to Jackie at Will and Hayley’s wedding, only for Jackie not to say it back — and then, Jackie found the teapot that had broken in the Walter kitchen earlier that season, which Cole had quietly taken and repaired. She thanked him, kissed him, and then left an apology note for Alex and flew back to New York with her uncle for the summer. The show had its hooks in firmly at that point.
Season 2 dropped on August 28, 2025, and if anything, it made things messier. Jackie returned to Silver Falls with Katherine rather than enroll in a Vermont boarding school, but the welcome back was cold — not just from Cole and Alex, but from Parker, who felt genuinely abandoned by Jackie leaving without a goodbye. Alex came back from his summer in Montana tanned, more built, and noticeably different — keeping his distance while Cole took on a new role at school that failed to replace football and only stirred up more drama. The season worked hard to give the ensemble room to breathe, with subplots around Danny and Erin, Nathan’s love life, Cole stepping up to coach during a crucial football game, and Alex pursuing bronc riding seriously enough to chase a sponsorship. The soundtrack leaned into it all — Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” Paramore’s “The Only Exception,” Sam Smith’s “Fire on Fire” — the music choices were doing a lot of work on behalf of everyone’s feelings.
The finale didn’t let anyone off easy. Jackie finally put words to what she’d been avoiding all season, confessing her love to Cole — and Alex heard it. Then George collapsed nearby with a medical emergency, and the credits rolled. Ashby Gentry put it well when he said about Season 3: “I don’t know how they’re going to recover from all of this trauma that’s just ensued. You want to talk about an elephant in the room, that’s a massive one.”
What’s Coming in Season 3
Netflix confirmed that Season 3 will pick up right after Season 2’s cliffhanger. That means George’s medical emergency, the aftermath of Alex overhearing Jackie’s confession, and whatever comes next for this love triangle are all front and center from episode one. Marie Claire
Showrunner Melanie Halsall has been candid about the challenge ahead. “It was a pretty big revelation at the end of Season 2, and we can’t just ignore that,” she said. “She also can’t keep bouncing between two boys. How we tackle that will be a really interesting challenge.” Betches
Three new recurring characters are joining the cast, and each one looks designed to shake things up in a specific direction. Chad Rook (IT: Welcome to Derry) plays Mac, a drag racer who hires Cole to work on one of his racing cars and is genuinely impressed when Cole takes it for a spin on the track. This feels significant — Cole has always needed something to replace football, and a mentor who sees real talent in him behind the wheel is exactly the kind of storyline that could give his character somewhere new to go. Naveen Paddock (Mighty Ducks: Game Changers) plays Eliot, Uncle Richard’s new intern, described as handsome and charming with an air of New York sophistication — his arrival in Silver Falls puts Jackie in a tug-of-war between her old life and her new one. And then there’s Erin Karpluk (Being Erica) as Hannah, George’s nomadic sister and mother to Isaac and Lee. She left her sons to live with the Walters and then disappeared for reasons no one’s explained — and now she’s suddenly back at the front door with a lot of bridges to rebuild.Variety
That last one is the sleeper storyline. Hannah’s return threatens to crack open the backstory of Isaac and Lee’s place in the Walter family, which the show has mostly left alone until now.
The Bigger Picture
Season 2 debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart and brought a wave of new viewers back to Season 1. Between the series debut in 2023 and the end of 2025, both seasons combined for over 130 million views. Netflix clearly sees this as a franchise — Season 4 has already been renewed and is set to premiere in 2027.
Production on Season 3 kicked off August 6, 2025, and wrapped in late November — the cast threw a wrap party on November 23rd. A September 2026 premiere window looks most likely based on the production timeline. No trailer yet, but given how fast the fandom moves on this show, that drop is going to break the internet when it comes.
For a series that started as a relatively low-key YA comfort watch, My Life with the Walter Boys has turned into one of Netflix’s sturdier ongoing dramas — not because it reinvents anything, but because it executes the things it’s good at with genuine care. Season 3 has an unusually rich set of storylines to pull from. Whether Jackie actually makes a choice, and what it costs her, is the question the whole audience has been sitting with since August.
